Verizon and Grind's Lower Manhattan coworking space now open to serve NYC tech community
NEW YORK, March 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Verizon and Grind announce the opening of their new coworking space inside Verizon's landmark former headquarters building at 140 West Street across from One World Trade Center. The opening follows the collaboration announced by Verizon and Grind last October.
To celebrate the opening of this new cutting edge workspace, Grind will be offering free coworking this entire week through Friday, March 18, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Verizon teamed with Grind and Gensler on creating this premiere 10,000 square-foot space on the second floor of this building last October. The space is now ready to serve New York City's technology, startup and entrepreneur community with flexible workspace options to help grow their ideas and businesses.
"We've never done anything like this with our portfolio before," said John Vazquez, Verizon's senior vice president for Global Real Estate. "The New York City tech sector is one of the most vibrant in the world and we're very excited to have some of its most creative entrepreneurs innovating under our own roof starting this week."
"We believe that working collaboratively with companies like Verizon to build out premiere locations and reach new communities of professionals is the future of coworking," said David Beale, Grind CEO. "Together we will be offering the lower Manhattan community access to an experience that is unparalleled in the coworking market."
The space was designed by Gensler, a leading architecture and design firm. The objective of the new space is to provide an environment that inspires knowledge sharing and collaboration among members of the coworking community and to enable them to problem solve and co-create with some of the best and brightest in their industries.
Verizon Ventures, the venture capital arm of the company, will use the space both for its portfolio companies and to provide mentorship for the local startup and entrepreneur community.
Grind's members will have access to Verizon's high speed broadband and other platform technologies to boost their development opportunities. The space will include open workspace, team rooms, conference rooms, and meeting spaces, to accommodate around 120 people per day.
Verizon hopes to open additional Grind locations at some of its other office locations in New York City and is looking at spaces in Brooklyn and Long Island City as potential future sites.
