Verizon and D.C. Councilmember Muriel Bowser to Salute Nonprofits on Oct. 30 for Stepping Up to Combat Domestic Violence in the Nation's Capital
Groups Will Be Honored in Special Ceremony as Survivors Share Their Stories, Tell How Nonprofits Change Lives
WASHINGTON, Oct. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- To commemorate October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and showcase the good work several D.C. nonprofits are doing to increase awareness and end domestic abuse, Verizon and District of Columbia Councilmember Muriel Bowser will gather for a special ceremony on Thursday (Oct. 30) to honor these groups for their dedication and hard work in the community. The Verizon Foundation awarded $115,000 in grants this year to assist these nonprofits in their efforts.
Honorees will include: Asian-Pacific Islander Domestic Violence Resource Project; Dance Institute of Washington; House of Ruth; Latin American Youth Center; Mary's Center for Maternal & Child Care; Neighborhood Legal Services Program; Survivors and Advocates for Empowerment (DC Safe); and The DC Center.
For nearly 20 years, Verizon has been committed to supporting domestic violence prevention, awareness and victim recovery efforts through various local and national initiatives.
