Ventyx Releases Updated Analysis and Projections for North American Power Market, EPA Clean Power Plan
Fall 2014 Reference Case and customer summit provide guidance for power investment decisions and forecasts of electricity market out to 25 years
ATLANTA, Oct. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Ventyx, an ABB company, today announced availability of its Fall 2014 North American Power Reference Case, a semiannual report detailing Ventyx's integrated market‑based fundamental model of the North American energy industry. The report provides detailed answers to key questions impacting power markets -- such as the projected impact of US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations, impacts of the expansion of the California ISO's energy imbalance market beyond California and the impact of ERCOT's Operating Reserve Demand Curve -- based on more than 15 years of power sector analysis, data and forecasting by the Ventyx Advisors team.
"Asset owners and energy providers are responding to the proposed EPA Clean Power Plan by announcing plant retirements, plant repowerings, additional renewable generation and increased energy efficiency. These actions affect earnings of market participants, and prices for power, fuel, emissions, and renewable energy credit (REC), and subsequent investment decisions," said Ventyx GM Energy Portfolio Management Solutions Tom O'Meara. "The Ventyx North American Reference Case offers an invaluable resource to guide these decisions by quantifying the various price drivers. Ventyx is well positioned to provide asset owners and energy providers with insight into strategies for profitability, as well as insight into carbon mitigation strategies for their states to meet the proposed targets."
The Ventyx North American Power Reference Case provides a comprehensive, integrated analysis of the North American electricity market using Ventyx's market-based, fundamental model of power, gas, coal and environmental markets – accounting for the interdependency of these markets – and provides 25-year forecasts based on consistent economic assumptions. In addition to forecasts associated with the EPA rule, the Fall 2014 report includes a wealth of analysis related to trends in key markets, including:
- Fuel and environmental expectations and impacts
- EPA's existing source performance standards (i.e., carbon intensity. What does it mean for the states? Who will be the winners and losers?)
- Changes in the ISO markets
- The polar vortex, underlying fundamentals that caused it, and its effects
- FERC's drive for increasing coordination between natural gas and electricity markets, including an analysis of this past winter's Northeast gas and power price excursion (i.e., will a cold winter drive another gas supply shortage across the Northeast?)
- Impact on energy and capacity prices across 72 market areas
- ERCOT's Operating Reserve Demand Curve
The Fall 2014 Power Reference Case report is available immediately. For more information, contact your Ventyx sales representative or email [email protected].
