The four-day conference opened with a welcome address by Ventyx CEO Jeff Ray, who highlighted the importance of coming together as a community to address the unprecedented challenges facing today's businesses in asset-intensive industries.
"We face a quickly changing and increasingly interconnected world," said Ray in his opening address. "We share challenges, and will prosper best if we share our solutions. Gathering as we have this week remains the best way to connect, share and learn from each other."
According to Ray, market uncertainties strain investment plans and budgets for all asset-intensive companies. "Many things have an impact on business, some predictable and others unforeseen: extreme weather events, commodity market volatility, environmental considerations and changing regulations. Improving return on investment, increasing security, ensuring workforce safety and delivering quality customer service are not isolated challenges for one industry or the other."
It is important that asset-intensive companies solve these challenges together, said Ray. "The challenges and opportunities we face today are connected, and require a connected solution. The lessons we learn together are lessons that we can share."
ABB's North America President and CEO Enrique Santacana also joined Ray on stage today, and spoke on the strategic role of enterprise software for ABB customers. "Together with Ventyx, we have bridged the gap between Operational Technology and Information Technology for our customers, and are building groundbreaking solutions that address their biggest challenges," said Santacana. "A good example is our new Asset Health Center solution, which automatically monitors the health of aging assets in real time to reduce catastrophic failures, helping our customers to minimize costly operational downtime."
Many prominent industry leaders from around the world will also speak from the main stage this week, including executives from American Electric Power, DTE Energy, EDF, Exelon and Hudbay Minerals. For more information on Ventyx World 2013, please visit www.ventyxworld.com.
