Ventura County Educators Join Ventura County Naval Base Commander to See Blue Angels
POINT MUGU, Calif., Sept. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On September 27, 2015, over 125,000 people visited the Naval Base at Point Mugu for the Base's first major air show in five years. The exciting show included the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels Demonstration Team, the seven-member Breitling Jet Team, and thrilling aerial acrobatics by stunt pilots from the Commemorative Air Force based in Camarillo.
Captain Chris Janke, USN, Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) Commanding Officer, hosted several Ventura County education leaders, including Ventura County Superintendent of Schools, Stan Mantooth, and Navy Veterans Ventura County Community College District Chancellor Bernard Luskin, and Rick Post, District Director of Economic Development. "Attending the air show as Captain Janke's guest was a lifetime highlight," said Luskin. "I was stationed on this base more than 40 years ago aboard the U.S.S. Norton Sound, AVM-1, while also attending Ventura College as a young sailor." "Today, the Ventura County Community College District Economic Development Division continues to provide cyber security training and certification for civilian personnel at the Naval Surface Warfare Center at Port Hueneme. The college district enjoys a close relationship with NBVC," added Post.
"We all work closely together in helping to provide educational opportunities throughout the county," commented Mantooth. "Working together with the Naval Base, Ventura County Community College District, and the many Ventura County school districts in helping students succeed is a goal we all share." Chancellor Luskin added, "We appreciate Captain Janke's leadership in bringing us together to work to improve education in Ventura County. Our colleges serve the Naval Personnel, as well as the many Veterans throughout the county."
