DENVER, Aug. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Velorama Festival — a one-of-a-kind three-day festival of the bike and music in the RiNo Art District Aug.17-19 — released its full lineup of cycling events, craft brews and local food offerings today.
Bike enthusiasts of all kinds — including recreational riders, amateur racers, mountain bikers, commuters, and those seeking family fun — will find something among the nearly two-dozen ancillary cycling events and activities, including:
- Velorama Rhythm Rumble — timed duels between two riders on a 300-foot straight rhythm course, with bonus points awarded to riders who throw the best tricks on the final jump. Attendees can watch the pros race, demo the track themselves or sign-up for a clinic (more info).
- Craft Beer Relay— this fun event combines three great things: bikes, beer and friends. Form your own team or join one on the spot and race on the Velorama criterium track, stopping and finishing a beer before your teammates can tackle the next leg of the course. Relays start in the afternoon on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (more info).
- A-Line Sprint / Race the Train — a chance for any cyclist to feel what it's like to sprint against an "Iron Horse" — the A-Line commuter train as it leaves Union Station for DIA alongside the Festival grounds (more info). Perfectly safe and fun for anyone.
- Mayor's Ride — a youth bike ride with Denver Mayor Michael Hancock on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 8 am that culminates in a ribbon-cutting to open the start-finish line for Stages 3 and 4 of the Colorado Classic.
- Criterium Races — multiple races on the Velorama criterium course encircling the Festival grounds for amateur and pro women and men riders of all abilities, from juniors to seniors, from fixed gear to road racers — with cash and merchandise prizes. Riders can register here.
- Interactive Bike Expo — test ride an e-Bike or mountain bike, or shop among dozens of organizations and cycling-related vendors offering everything from the latest in bike gear and technology to apparel.
- Art Installations — does anything say "RiNo" more than art and bikes? Spin the pedal and watch as recycled bike wheels come to life on the Colorado Tourism Wheel Wall, an original work of art and the perfect selfie station. And around the Festival grounds, check out the uniquely RiNo CRUSH art walls.
Velorama also will feature some of the best views of Stages 3 and 4 (Aug. 18-19) of the Colorado Classic, which will bring more than 150 of the world's top pro men and women cyclists from 30 international teams. Festival-goers can watch the start and finish of each race, the criterium course, pro rider and team sign-ins, each day's award ceremonies, and on Saturday, the Stage 3 women's race in its entirety, which is a timed criterium with more than 25 laps, starting at 12:30 pm.
Fans can watch, mingle with and get autographs from the pros as they warm up in the morning for Saturday and Sunday's races in the team bus parking lot, which will be located in an area open to the public near the Festival's main entrance.
And those who ride their bicycles to the Festival can park their bikes for free at the Velorama Bike Corral near the 27th and Blake Street entrance.
When hungry from all the cycling action, festival-goers will find something for any taste at the Food Truck Convoy, featuring 20 of Denver's best food trucks. Those thirsty will find craft beer, hard cider and wine from DRiNk RiNo producers including Odell Brewing Co., Great Divide Brewing Co., Epic Brewing, Bigsby's Folly, Stem Ciders, Ratio Beerworks, Mockery Brewing Co., Black Shirt Brewing Co., C Squared Ciders, Bierstadt Lagerhaus, Our Mutual Friend Brewing Company and The Infinite Monkey Theorem.
As the cycling events wind down each day, the music ramps up into the evening with headliner acts Modest Mouse, The Growlers, Cold War Kids, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Matt And Kim, plus a host of national, up-and-coming and Colorado-based bands — 14 bands over the three days.
Single-day Velorama General Admission tickets for Friday and Saturday are $50 and Sunday is only $10. Three-day General Admission passes are $100, and Premium and VIP experiences are also available. Tickets provide access to all the activities that day in the Festival including music, Colorado Classic pro racing, food, brews and bike events.
