SEATTLE, April 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- FlowPlay, a leader in virtual world games and technology, today announced that the company raised more than $35,000 through a fundraiser in its flagship social casino, Vegas World. FlowPlay is donating 100 percent of the proceeds from sales of an exclusive virtual charm to the American Cancer Society's (ACS) Road To Recovery program, which provides free rides for cancer patients who do not have a way to get to potentially life-saving medical appointments. The first campaign of its kind for the ACS, it drew involvement from nearly 10,000 Vegas World players making it one of the most successful campaigns FlowPlay has run to date.
"We are truly appreciative of the Vegas World community and the team at FlowPlay," said Stephanie Christensen, executive vice president, American Cancer Society Great West Division. "Through the donations collected over the past month, FlowPlay and its users are helping to save and extend the lives of thousands of cancer patients. It was such a creative and fun virtual campaign that impacts real lives."
As a result of the campaign that ran from March 1 to March 28, Vegas World players purchased more than 270,000 ACS-branded Taxi Charms to directly fund the Road To Recovery program. Quickly uniting to support the cause, the Vegas World community created more than 1,000 in-game parties that required the purchase of the exclusive charm to participate.
"As a moderator and Vegas World player since launch, I've had the unique opportunity to help make Vegas World a game that is truly inspired by its dedicated player base and provides a platform that connects the in-game community with real-world causes," said Amy Craig (aka Glammy), Vegas World moderator. "This American Cancer Society campaign specifically provided an opportunity for Vegas World players to come together over an important cause and support an organization that funds cancer research and is bettering the lives of millions."
"To say the Vegas World players embraced this campaign would be an understatement, as this was the most successful in-game fundraiser we've had to date," said Derrick Morton, CEO of FlowPlay. "Knowing that contributions from Vegas World have enabled access to transportation for critical appointments for thousands more cancer patients is both humbling and inspiring. We extend our thanks and congratulations to our awesome community for making this effort a huge success."
In 2015, FlowPlay raised over $60,000 for other organizations through similar in-game campaigns, including GirlStart and earthquake relief in Nepal.
