Väsen Brewing Company Announces Grand Opening Date
Richmond's newest craft brewery offers an innovative approach to the brewing industry and a destination taproom.
RICHMOND, Va., July 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Väsen Brewing Company, a craft brewery located in the Scott's Addition Historic District, will unveil its destination taproom and production facility at an official grand opening on July 29, 2017. The community is invited to join the brewers as Väsen debuts five varieties of its Belgian-inspired lineup. New Madrid will perform during the opening event, while Goatocado and Rappahannock Oyster Company provide food.
Väsen's journey to brewing began three years ago when owners Joey Darragh and Tony Giordano set out to create one of the nation's most sustainable breweries, which was also capable of combining the experimental spirit that defines American craft beer with the rustic flavors of Belgian farmhouse and sour ales.
"The Swedish word 'väsen' honors our Scandinavian heritage and translates as one's inner essence," said Nathan Winters, Väsen's marketing and environmental director. "At Väsen Brewing Company, brewing is about creating and appreciating something greater than yourself. We brew to inspire others to chase the things they love."
Inside the recently renovated HandCraft Building, one of the area's most iconic structures, Väsen Brewing Company has developed a distinctive brewing process that produces balanced, sessionable beers. In addition to a signature barrel-aging program, the brewery will offer a variety of saisons, wheat beers, and pale ales that can be enjoyed inside its Hyperborium taproom. To create unconventional ales that celebrate its passion for the environment, Väsen has built a 17,000-square-foot facility, which uses science-based metrics to track its ecological responsibility and the brewery's sustainability.
By working hand-in-hand with Virginia farmers and energy producers, Väsen will rely on a local supply chain and strive to achieve sustainable brewing with 100 percent reuse and recycling of the resources used to make its beer. With a strong commitment to the Richmond community, Väsen will roll out an Ambassador Program during the summer of 2017 to support local adventure seekers and nonprofits working to protect the environment. The goal of the program will be to educate and inspire others to participate in the type of outdoor activities that represent the spirit of Väsen.
"Väsen is passionate about pushing the industry forward by using an innovative approach to brewing," said Winters. "Our legacy will be built on the sustainability practices we create for generations to come."
