The new series maintains more exposure to stocks over time, emphasizing long-term growth potential.
VALLEY FORGE, Pa., Oct. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Vanguard announced the upcoming launch of the Vanguard Target Retirement Growth Trusts, a new target-date investment product that provides employers with another way to help employees save for retirement.
The new series, which is expected to be available later this year, expands Vanguard's target-date lineup by introducing collective investment trusts that maintain a higher allocation to equities throughout the retirement savings journey. Built on the same foundation as Vanguard's Target Retirement Funds and Trusts, the new Growth series automatically adjusts its investment mix as investors get closer to retirement, maintaining a diversified portfolio over time. The key difference is a greater allocation to equities across the glide path, which may appeal to employers whose workforce would benefit from a more growth-oriented approach and may be better positioned to take on additional equity risk.
"We are excited to introduce the latest evolution of our Target Retirement offerings, reflecting our commitment to meeting the increasingly diverse needs of today's retirement savers," said Lauren Valente, Managing Director, Vanguard Workplace Solutions. "The Growth Trusts provide plan sponsors with another option within Vanguard's target-date lineup, built on the same disciplined, research-driven approach that has guided our Target Retirement series since its inception."
As one of the most widely used target-date investment products available today, Vanguard's Target Retirement Funds and Trusts have helped millions of people save for retirement through diversified, professionally managed portfolios, designed to simplify long-term investing. The new Growth series reflects the same foundation of broad diversification, disciplined portfolio construction, and low-cost investing that has defined the Target Retirement series for more than two decades.
Target-date options can address the evolving needs of retirement savers based on factors like how much people earn, how much they save, where their retirement income may come from, and how comfortable they are with investment risk. While Vanguard's Target Retirement Funds and Trusts remain an effective solution, the new Growth series is intended for plans with participants whose needs, risk tolerance, or retirement objectives may support a higher allocation to equities. To help employers evaluate each target-date series for their plans, Vanguard will provide access to research, tools, and specialized consultation to support the selection process.
The launch continues Vanguard's broader effort to evolve its retirement investment lineup alongside the changing needs of investors. Late last year, Vanguard introduced its Target Retirement Lifetime Income Trusts, expanding access to solutions designed to help participants turn their retirement savings into income. The expanded lineup gives employers greater flexibility when selecting a retirement investment approach for the needs of their workforce, while remaining grounded in the same investment principles that have defined Vanguard's Target Retirement offerings for more than 20 years.
