VALVE's Steam Platform Now Accepts Local Currencies in Mexico and Turkey Through UOL BoaCompra
Brazil's leading digital payment company now providing local payment options for STEAM users in Mexico and Turkey
SÃO PAULO, October 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Brazilian-based digital payments company UOL BoaCompra, and VALVE Corporation, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike, Dota 2 and Team Fortress 2) and the largest online game distribution platform, Steam , today announced that UOL BoaCompra will support local currencies and payment options available on Steam in both Mexico and Turkey.

Since 2012, VALVE has been using UOL BoaCompra's payment methods to allow gamers in Brazil to choose local payment methods when purchasing in Steam, and now the successful cooperation has been extended to Mexico and Turkey, two of the most promising and rapidly expanding online game markets.
"Based on our successful track record with Brazil, UOL BoaCompra was the natural choice for opening up local currencies and payments in Mexico and Turkey," said Mark Richardson, CFO of VALVE.
Up until this year, Steam supported only five currencies worldwide for more than 75 million active accounts. Territories outside of these transacted in USD via international credit card and basic local options. However, international credit cards are vastly inaccessible in markets such as Mexico and Turkey, where alternative local payment methods are the predominant way to pay online.
"We're excited to extend our strong relationship with VALVE to Mexico and Turkey, and allow these players the ability to make Steam purchases using the local payment methods they trust most," said Marcelo Epstein, CEO of UOL. "As we've seen in the past with our cooperation in Brazil, leveraging BoaCompra's local payment system will enable Steam to bring their product to more users in Mexico and Turkey."
As revealed during VALVE's Steam Dev Days this past January, the latest new set of currencies in Steam is part of a greater development for VALVE to roll out a dozen new currencies this year to make purchases on the platform more accessible to Steam users world-wide.
