Valpak Partners With United Way For 2016 Day of Caring, Continuing Commitment To Strengthening Neighborhoods
About 80 Volunteers Make Pathway Safe for 47 Schoolchildren
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Oct. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Valpak is excited to announce its participation in this year's United Way Suncoast Annual Day of Caring, which will take place on Friday, October 7. So far, about 80 Valpak volunteers have signed up to assist the Florida Dream Center (FDC) with clearing an unsafe area that 47 children walk through every morning from Duval Park to their school bus stop. This overgrown area poses serious risks to these schoolchildren.
Every year, United Way designates one day in October to uniting organizations for the common goal of improving their communities. Workplace teams across DeSoto, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pinellas, and Sarasota counties form to bring volunteer groups together with projects most non-profit agencies could never undertake on their own.
"Helping our local communities is the foundation of our business," said Michael Vivio, President of Valpak. "For decades, Valpak has supported local businesses with targeted marketing, but we take it a step further – we know it is equally important to support the families and children who live in these neighborhoods, too."
The Duval Park complex near the Lealman area in St. Petersburg is a community for veterans with disabilities and their families. Volunteers will focus on moving and disposing material after the Dream Center team starts removing the trees, brush and debris from the stretch of land that borders the park.
"Our intention is to create a cleaner and safer path for these children, and we are very excited to share this goal with Valpak," said Steve Cleveland, Adopt-A-Block Director of the Florida Dream Center. "This area has become a priority of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, so they brought it to the Florida Dream Center Adopt-a-Block program. Partnering with Valpak on this project will assure our Lealman children a safer place to live."
Every year, the Blue Crew, Valpak's community service committee, and Valpak employees take part in Day of Caring, joining hundreds of volunteers with local companies, community agencies, schools and other organizations. This is part of Valpak's ongoing effort, Valpak Saves, to serve communities across the country. Valpak Saves is a national campaign to support and inspire play and healthy living within our communities, part of its effort to help neighborhoods thrive.
