Valimenta™ Labs Releases University Clinical Study Bolstering Proprietary Liposomal Technology
FORT COLLINS, Colo., March 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- There are many untested liposomal products on the market. How do you know if the products you are taking are backed by science and facts or are simply marketing hype? Here we offer a scientific study, performed in an academic setting, to illustrate our dedication to true liposome science.

What is a liposome?
Liposomes are tiny nano-sized bubbles with an outer shell comprised of healthy lipids and a hollow aqueous center that can be filled with a variety of substances, such as Vitamin C. We have long postulated that the outer layer of the liposome protects the Vitamin C from gastric juices and liver enzymes; now, clinical studies are showing that liposomes support the absorption of nutrition, such as Vitamin C, and have excellent efficacy.
PART 1: How much Liposomal Vitamin C absorbs into a person's blood (bioavailability)?
While high doses of regular vitamin C powder or capsules will be rejected at high rates from your body, Liposomal Vitamin C is a fantastic alternative.
Starting in 2012, a team at the Department of Health and Exercise Science at Colorado State University (abstract at www.fasebj.org) has been comparing Vitamin C concentrations in the blood after swallowing a "normal" Vitamin C powder, and after ingestion of Liposomal Vitamin C, made using our formulation and technology, in order to understand Vitamin C bioavailability. Figure 1 shows that, compared with "normal" Vitamin C ingestion (single dose of 4 g), ingestion of Liposomal Vitamin C (also 4 g) leads to appreciably greater circulating Vitamin C concentrations. Hence, liposomes facilitate Vitamin C delivery to the blood. Having structural analysis and some pictures is nice; however, our interest is in achieving the intended goal of improved bioavailability.
PART 2: What will Vitamin C do once in the blood (efficacy)?
The next step in the study is to determine if the Vitamin C concentration is meaningful. In this regard, an ischemia reperfusion study was performed. Ischemia describes any tissue that has been deprived of blood and oxygen. Reperfusion occurs when the blood and oxygen supply is returned. Unfortunately, reperfusion can cause massive oxidative stress on your cardiovascular system, as the oxygen interacts with metabolites produced by the oxygen-deprived tissues. Per the blue line in the Figure 2, oxidative stress was reduced even during the increased oxidative stress of reperfusion. Figure 2 illustrates how the ingestion of liposomal Vitamin C quenches the oxidative stress (reactive oxygen species) during an ischemia-reperfusion study using a blood pressure cuff around the upper arm and inflated to very high pressures for 20 minutes.

PART 3: What is the size of the liposomes using this technology?
Another step in our study is to characterize size ranges for our formulations. We have been making Liposomal Vitamin C with a peak particle size of 85 nm (nanometers) and with 92% of the particles being between 60 and 172 nm (Figure 3). This tight distribution is indicative of a reproducible and highly controlled manufacturing methodology that we invented.
