Vail Veterans Program Hosts Wounded Warriors and Their Families for Summer Events
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., July 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This summer, the Vail Veterans program will again host warriors recently wounded in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for rehabilitative activity in the beautiful Colorado outdoors.
From July 21-24, fifteen warriors and their families will participate in horseback riding, fly-fishing, zip-lining, whitewater rafting and other outdoor activities, which will offer them the opportunity to reconnect with each other and know that in spite of their injuries, physical activity can still be part of their lives.
The Vail Veterans Program is an all volunteer organization that focuses on the wounded veteran's abilities, not their disabilities, allowing each of them to build self confidence. The program was founded seven years ago, just months after the war in Iraq had begun. In 2008, it expanded to include a ski camp for those who have become paralyzed while serving our country in the current conflicts. It has hosted over 250 wounded United States service members and over 100 of their family members.
"With the assistance of the Vail community and the Wounded Warrior Project we are able to provide rehabilitative therapy to wounded warriors. It is important that we continue to assist them and their families throughout their recovery and support those who have made a sacrifice for our country," said Cheryl Jensen, President of the Vail Veterans Program
