FREMONT, Calif., April 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- V5 Systems, the industry pioneer in self-powered computing and security platforms for the outdoors, recently closed its Series A2 round of $12 million, taking total investor funding to over $20 million. Completion of the Series A2 funding was viewed as a resounding vote of confidence by private equity investors and individual investors for the company's and technological leadership.
To maximize the adoption of its technology and compete on a global scale, V5 Systems continues to establish strategic partnerships. The company is presently working together with, for example, Dell EMC, Axis Communications, Intel, Foxlink, Nvidia, T Systems, Oracle, Arrow and VMware.
Among its recent achievements, V5 Systems swept two wins in the Security Industry Association's New Product Showcase (SIA NPS) in April at the 2017 ISC West trade show in both categories the company entered. The SIA NPS is the security industry's premier awards-based marketing program and is judged by volunteers who are experts in security technology design and application.
A critical benefit of V5 technology is that its self-powered units enable edge computing and artificial intelligence in the outdoors. Traditionally, the level of coding required for AI had to reside in a backend server or data center. V5 Systems, which believes in forging new paths, optimized its code so artificial intelligence can run in each of its outdoor devices and make decisions on the edge, all wirelessly.

V5 Systems features three product lines:
Edge Security: The ability to deploy self-powered security solutions quickly in any outdoor environment that would be cost-prohibitive if trenching was required to wire the unit to the electric grid.
Edge Computing: Intelligent self-powered edge computing platforms, enabling end users to collect, analyze and relay sensor data in the outdoors for actionable alerts, wirelessly.
Edge Power: A unit that can act as the sole power source for almost any hardware device in outdoor environments. Perpetual power is via a combination of its proprietary solar panels, battery pack and power management system that, together, contain 1,000 Watts of power yet the unit weighs less than 25 lbs.
All V5 Systems devices are customizable to include sensors that enable it to see, hear, and smell.
- To see, a video camera is used. Paired with artificial intelligence it can now detect a person or vehicle in a defined zone and send real-time alerts if the zone has been breached.
- To hear, an acoustic sensor has been developed to detect different sound signatures through V5 Systems self-learning AI platform. The first sound signature solution the company developed was for real-time gunshot detection (GSD) and gunshot location (GSL).
- To smell, atom based nano sensors are used to detect different chemical signatures. The first three chemicals that the sensors (Q4Y17) can detect are methane, ammonia and chlorine.
