UW Medicine Hospitals Receive 'Top Performer' Recognition From The Joint Commission
SEATTLE, Nov. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Two UW Medicine hospitals were recognized by The Joint Commission as a 'Top Performer on Key Quality Measures' for 2013, UW Medicine announced today. The hospitals that received recognition are UW Medical Center and Northwest Hospital & Medical Center.
Both hospitals were recognized specifically for top performance using evidence-based interventions for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care and are included in The Joint Commission's 2014 annual report "America's Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety."
"Our mission is to improve the health of the public," said Johnese Spisso, chief health system officer for UW Medicine and vice president for medical affairs for the University of Washington. "Receiving this recognition speaks to the commitment of our physicians, nurses and other medical professionals to provide patients with quality care that is supported by evidence-based practices."
The Top Performer program recognizes hospitals for improving performance on evidence-based interventions that increase the chances of healthy outcomes for patients with certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, children's asthma, stroke, venous thromboembolism and perinatal care, as well as for inpatient psychiatric services and immunizations. The Joint Commission is the leading accreditor of healthcare organizations in the United States.
"UW Medical Center has a long history of innovation," said Stephen Zieniewicz, executive director of UW Medical Center. "As an academic medical center, we apply what we learn to enhance patient care to improve outcomes."
"We are extremely proud to have received this recognition from the Joint Commission," said Cindy Hecker, executive director of Northwest Hospital & Medical Center. "The outcomes we've been able to achieve in these and other key areas demonstrate the commitment of each member of our staff to delivering safe, high-quality care to every patient, every time."
UW Medical Center and Northwest Hospital & Medical Center are among 1,244 hospitals to meet or exceed the target rates of performance for 2013, and among 17 hospitals in the state to be recognized by The Joint Commission as a 'Top Performer.'
