UTC Aerospace Systems selected by AirAsia to provide nacelle asset support and MRO services
FARNBOROUGH AIR SHOW, July 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- UTC Aerospace Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), has been selected by AirAsia to provide nacelle asset support, and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for its Malaysia-headquartered fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft. The services will be provided by UTC Aerospace Systems' Aerostructures business as part of a five-year Prime Solutions® agreement and performed at the Goodrich Aerostructures Service Center – Asia Pte. Ltd. facility (GASCA) in Singapore.
Prime Solutions is a flexible maintenance program that offers customized nacelle system support designed to lengthen life cycles at the lowest cost of ownership. Services can be tailored to meet each specific airline's needs, such as the AirAsia fleet's CFM56-5B engines. The agreement provides proactive maintenance of thrust reversers under an inspection and repair program, as well as secondary asset support for any other nacelle component during unscheduled removals.
"We're delighted that AirAsia chose us to perform maintenance on its fleet at GASCA, which is an advantage because the facility is located near its operations," said Marc Duvall, president, Aerostructures, UTC Aerospace Systems. "At UTC Aerospace Systems, we are proud of our customer focus, and this Prime Solutions agreement is meaningful because it comes from an airline that has grown through its commitment to providing value to its passengers."
AirAsia was rated the world's best low-cost airline in the 2015 Skytrax World Airline Awards survey. The airline was the first to operate Airbus A320ceo (current engine option) aircraft equipped with sharklet wing tips designed to reduce drag and increase fuel efficiency. It will begin accepting delivery of Airbus A320neo (new engine option) aircraft later this year.
Since 1988, UTC Aerospace Systems has delivered more than 14,000 nacelle systems for A320 aircrafts. The company's Aerostructures business, headquartered in Chula Vista, California, began offering its Prime Solutions program in 2007. Since then, airlines around the world have entered into long-term agreements with Aerostructures for its nacelle system maintenance solutions.
