UTC Aerospace Systems Hosts Congressman Juan Vargas Visit
CHULA VISTA, Calif., Aug. 28, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- UTC Aerospace Systems showcased its Aerostructures business today when Rep. Juan Vargas (D-Calif.) visited its Chula Vista, Calif. location. The business unit designs, builds and supports nacelle systems, the aerodynamic structures that surround an aircraft's engine, enabling more fuel-efficient operation and reducing engine noise, for commercial and military aircraft. The Chula Vista site is headquarters for the business unit, housing program management, central engineering, research & development, aftermarket and support functions, as well as detail part manufacture and a spares fulfillment center. With about 2,450 full-time employees, the Aerostructures business is Chula Vista's fourth largest employer. UTC Aerospace Systems is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
During his visit, company executives provided Rep. Vargas with an overview of Aerostructures' global operations, its 70+-year history in Chula Vista and a tour of a few of its nacelle development programs. A town hall meeting with about two dozen employees was held immediately after the congressman's tour.
