UTC Aerospace Systems awarded follow-on Laser Warning Contract
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- UTC Aerospace Systems has been awarded a five year Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract by the U.S. Army with a total contract ceiling amount of $208.5 million for the procurement of AN/AVR-2B(V) Laser Detecting Sets and associated parts and services. UTC Aerospace Systems is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
In addition, the U.S. Army has also awarded a five-year IDIQ contract with a total contract ceiling amount of $47 million for the procurement of specified AN/AVR-2B(V) Laser Detecting Sets spares and components. These contracts are follow-ons to a highly successful initial five-year IDIQ that was awarded to Goodrich in 2007.
"Our team is pleased to continue our outstanding relationship with the United States Army to provide our service men and women with this vital protection system," said Andreas Nonnenmacher, general manager, ISR Systems. "These contracts allow for the continuing development of this critical technology for future operational requirements."
The AN/AVR-2B(V) is the latest generation of aviation laser warning systems to be used by the U.S. armed forces (formerly supplied under the Goodrich brand). The system is smaller and lighter than the previous version, uses less power, and demonstrates enhanced performance, reliability, and maintainability. It detects rangefinders, target designators, and beam rider laser-aided weapon systems, and is capable of multiple aircraft signal interfaces.
To date, the company has delivered over 10,000 aviation and ground laser warning systems to the United States and other armed forces around the world. This includes over 1,300 AN/AVR-2B(V) systems delivered under the previous IDIQ contract. Under that contract the company received numerous customer accolades for achieving 73 consecutive months of on-time, in-full deliveries.
The ISR Systems team, based in Connecticut has supplied threat detection and laser warning systems for use on aviation, naval and ground platforms for over 25 years.
