Utah Valley University to Name Roots of Knowledge Gallery after Philanthropists Marc and Deborah Bingham

Generous donors to the UVU community for many years, the Binghams' donation has helped pave the way for the completion of this ambitious public art project of extraordinary proportions. Roots of Knowledge's 80 stained glass windows, totaling 10 feet by 200 feet and containing 60,000 pieces of glass, depict humanity's quest for knowledge since the dawn of time, starting with spear-wielding cave people and ending with the modern day.  

"With all that's going on in the world, it's important that we understand our past, and Roots of Knowledge helps us do that in a beautiful and significant way," said Marc and Deborah Bingham. "We believe strongly in the vision behind this work of art and hope it affects people in a profound way – as it did for us."

Conceived by artist Tom Holdman and UVU President Matthew Holland, Roots of Knowledge combines the work and guidance of 40+ professional artists, 26 UVU scholars and 350+ UVU students. The permanent installation will be unveiled on Nov. 18 to coincide with the university's 75th anniversary. It will wrap around the UVU library's wall and will be visible from both outside the building and inside. The interior space will be named the Marc and Deborah Bingham Gallery.

"We are incredibly grateful to Marc and Debbie Bingham for enabling us to complete the production and installation of the Roots of Knowledge windows through their generous gift," said UVU President Matthew Holland. "We are excited and honored to recognize the Binghams' ongoing generosity and commitment – not just for Roots of Knowledge but for all of UVU – by naming the Roots of Knowledge gallery after them."

The Binghams have made numerous contributions to UVU through scholarships, athletics and other university programs. They also fund an ongoing scholarship for single parents, and in 2010, they donated $1 million for the construction of the science building.
