Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert Visits Malt-O-Meal® Plant in Tremonton to Talk About Job Creation in Northern Utah
TREMONTON, Utah, Oct. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert visited the Malt-O-Meal plant in Tremonton, Utah yesterday to thank the company for bringing 250 jobs to the area and contributing to the economic development of the state. As part of his visit, Governor Herbert also met with employees to gather their input on what else the state can do to encourage additional job growth in Utah.
Malt-O-Meal is the country's largest independent family-owned cereal company. They opened the 382,000 square foot high-tech Tremonton plant in 2004 bringing 250 new jobs to the area.
"Because outstanding companies like Malt-O-Meal recognize Utah is a great place to live, work and do business, Utah remains ahead of the rest of the nation when it comes to key economic indicators," said Governor Herbert. "I came today to see what we can learn, what is working well and where we can improve as we accelerate our efforts to help the private sector create jobs."
Located on 101 acres of land, the current Malt-O-Meal facility runs four product lines and produces approximately 125,000 packages of cereal a day in a variety of ready-to-eat flavors such as the company's best-selling Frosted Mini Spooners®, Cinnamon Toasters®, Marshmallow Mateys® and Honey Graham Squares®. The company has seen strong growth in recent years and is hopeful that it will be able to bring even more new jobs to the area in the future. The existing site is designed to accommodate up to nine manufacturing lines and additional buildings.
"We are honored that Governor Herbert was able to visit and see first-hand why Malt-O-Meal is a great place to do great work," says Mark Suchan, Malt-O-Meal plant manager. "The state of Utah and the city of Tremonton is a strong and wonderful community to be a part of. The superior quality of the area's workforce was a factor in our decision to build here, and we're proud to be able to provide steady jobs and good benefits for our employees."
When Malt-O-Meal opened its facility in Tremonton, the company also made a $2.2 million investment in the community's water treatment facility. The facility has been upgraded substantially as a cooperative effort between the city of Tremonton and Malt-O-Meal and is one example of the company's commitment to supporting local communities where it has production facilities.
