PITTSBURGH, Jan. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The United Steelworkers (USW) has been notified by Dr. Valdemar A. Hill, Jr., Chief Negotiator for the Office of Collective Bargaining, Government of the Virgin Islands, that his office has "received information that several members of the USW are engaging in an organized work stoppage."

The United Steelworkers has informed Dr. Hill that the International Union, District and Local Union have not authorized, condoned or otherwise approved, in any manner, any type of job action and/or work stoppage. Nor does the Union have any information to support Dr. Hill's statement that members of the United Steelworkers are engaged in an organized work stoppage.
Nevertheless, the Union instructs any USW-represented employee who may be engaging in any work stoppage activity to end such activity immediately and report to work as scheduled.
The USW is the largest industrial union in North America and has 850,000 members in the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean. It represents workers employed in metals, rubber, chemicals, paper, oil refining, atomic energy and the service sector.
