UST Global launches Northwest Arkansas' all women STEM training program
The program, Step IT Up America, was welcomed to the state by Walmart executives and Rogers, Arkansas' Mayor Greg Hines
ROGERS, Ark., Feb. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- UST Global, a Los Angeles-based leading provider of end-to-end digital solutions and IT services for Global 1000 companies, today launched its proprietary job creation program Step IT Up America in Northwest Arkansas.
Through the program, women from the areas surrounding Bentonville, home of Walmart headquarters, and Rogers, Arkansas, will have the opportunity to enter a 90-day intensive technology training program. Once graduated, these Arkansas women will be guaranteed jobs as UST Global Associates within their local communities.
UST Global hosted this launch at the Embassy Suites in Rogers with several Walmart executives as well as Mayor of Rogers Greg Hines and CEO of UST Global Sajan Pillai.
"This is an initiative we at UST Global care deeply about," said Sajan Pillai CEO at UST Global. "I created Step IT Up America as a solution towards closing the gender gap that is present in the technology workforce. By educating women across the country in cities like Bentonville and Rogers, we're bringing the vision and skills developed in the Silicon Valley to the heart of America, and ensuring all women have a place at the technology table."
"We are honored that Step IT Up America has come to Bentonville and Rogers and wish to commend and congratulate UST Global on a successful launch here in Northwest Arkansas," said Mayor Hines. "We are a land of great resources, and our greatest resource is our people. We fully believe UST Global's program will help foster that talent and contribute significantly to Arkansas' growing technology workforce."
Step IT Up America aims to train and place 5,000 women into technology roles by 2020. The nationwide program has been welcomed to more than 11 cities across America including Atlanta, Philadelphia, Detroit, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York. The women selected for the Northwest Arkansas program will take core classes and skill development in QA testing, business analytics, entry level programming, project coordination and Six Sigma.
To date, more than 300 women has successfully graduated the program, with an additional 800 women on track to join them by the end of 2016. To identify and select highly motivated minority and urban women for each of the Step IT Up America classes, UST Global works with local community colleges, civic and community organizations.
Women selected receive the opportunity to not only learn and excel in a new career path, but are offered mentorship along the way. UST Global aims to bridge both the gender and minority gap in information technology careers with Step IT Up America.
