USPTO Notifies TransData of Intent to Reaffirm Smart Electric Meter Patent for Wireless Under-Glass Meter Communications

DALLAS, May 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- TransData, Inc., a leading designer and manufacturer of advanced, solid-state power & energy metering products, has received a notification from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office ("USPTO") of its intention to issue a reexamination certificate reaffirming the validity of TransData's U.S. Patent 6,903,699 ('699 patent).  According to the notice, the USPTO confirmed validity on all of the pending '699 claims as originally patented and will allow 33 new claims to be added to the patent.

TransData's '699 smart meter patent has been the subject of two ex-parte reexamination proceedings.  The '699 patent relates to TransData's rich wireless under-glass smart meter communications technology that has become the cornerstone for advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) systems being deployed by various electric utilities.

TransData has asserted the '699 patent in infringement actions covering millions of smart electric meters currently in use by Centerpoint Energy Houston Electric, LLC; Oncor Electric Delivery Company LLC; Texas-New Mexico Power Company; Denton Municipal Utilities; San Diego Gas & Electric Co; Denton County Electric Cooperative, Inc. (d/b/a CoServ Electric); Southern Company subsidiaries Alabama Power, Georgia Power and Mississippi Power; Oklahoma Gas & Electric Co; Tri-County Electric Coop Inc.; and Wisconsin Power & Light Co.
