ATLANTA, July 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- United States Obstacle Course Racing (USOCR), the national association dedicated to the sustained growth of obstacle course racing, is heading into its third season with energy, clarity and momentum.
USOCR was first conceptualized in the summer of 2013 with the goal of supporting the growth and culture of obstacle course racing. The association was unveiled in early 2014 as the sport's first national sanctioning body, structured with a foundational emphasis on risk management services for racers and event managers.
Since that soft launch, USOCR services have expanded and solidified into a framework that makes it easier for athletes and spectators to enjoy the sport, and more efficient and profitable for event managers to help grow the sport.
"Supporting the sustained growth of obstacle course racing remains our biggest goal as well as our biggest challenge. We've accomplished an incredible amount in a short time, but there's still a lot of work to be done," said Sam Mansfield, USOCR president and CEO.
In 2016, obstacle course racing's growing national presence included more than 1 million racers and 400 individual event managers, according to USOCR research.
To support that community, USOCR's core commitments include improving course safety, increasing event efficiency and event participation, fostering the entrepreneurial nature of obstacle course racing, providing foundational services that allow for maximum creativity by event managers, and promoting the unique culture of the sport.
"Event organizers are the primary engine for obstacle racing's growth," said Mansfield. "USOCR is committed to supporting their needs at the grassroots, regional and national level, helping increase both safety and enjoyment of races, as well as providing essential efficiencies for operating a successful business."
USOCR is supported by annual individual memberships available at https://usocr.com/membership as well as through select services provided to race managers.
For racers, USOCR member benefits have grown to include a free national ranking system, cutting edge racing gear and apparel at exclusive discounts, interactive community tools and race day insurance.
For sanctioned races, USOCR services increase safety, efficiency and professionalism with a growing suite of tools and resources including risk management, infrastructure, planning, logistics and marketing support.
