Using Chess to Wipe Out Bullying, Improve Dropout Rates and Test Scores
LOUISVILLE, Ky., Aug. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- "Winning isn't just for games -- it's a game plan for life. The only way we can win our future is to teach and empower our youth," says author and international motivational speaker Orrin "Checkmate" Hudson. He has inspired more than 25,000 students around the globe as part of a world tour to inspire one million students to make the right moves. He will share his message with organization 1+1=U, Inc. from Aug. 24-25, 2012.
Margaret Dunbar-Demaree, Executive Director/Founder of 1+1=U, Inc. who is bringing Orrin in to empower the students, said, "College is not for all youths, but they have the potential to be successful at something. 1+1 finds that potential in every youth and helps them to become their own success story. We looked at a lot of speakers, but when I saw Orrin's YouTube video, I discovered that he was born to inspire students and adults, and we want the best for our students."

Hudson knows today's youth hear many different messages while outside of school. Some of these messages tell them that school isn't important, while other messages may be temptations to smoke, experiment with drugs or flirt with the wrong side of the law. "Heads up, pants up, and grades up and never give up," is one of the catch phrases Hudson uses to challenge students to make the right moves and choices that can position them for success in life.

About Orrin "Checkmate" Hudson
Orrin is a chess champion and uses the game as a training tool to teach how to wipe out bullying and improve test scores for students. He is the founder of Be Someone (www.besomeone.org), a crime prevention educational program founded in 2001 after five restaurant employees were killed in a robbery for $2,000.00. Hudson and his work with Be Someone have been featured nationally in People magazine and on the CBS Early Morning Show and recognized with numerous awards. He is a two-time winner of the World Open Speed Chess and has coached students to win statewide and city-wide chess championships. He is the author of "One Move at a Time," and his goal is to teach students that real cash is spelled "kash" with a "K." His innovative "KASH is King" philosophy spells success for students by emphasizing K for Knowledge, A for Attitude, S for Skills and H for Habits.
Students will walk away with increased self-motivation, a greater desire to excel in school and a marked improvement in their GPA as a result of Hudson's message, "Think it out, talk it out, work it out, play it out, but don't shoot it out." They will also learn teamwork and the importance of community involvement.
