Johnson & Johnson accepted the prestigious award during the Million Dollar Club Breakfast at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
"Johnson & Johnson has made a visible commitment to incorporating a growing number of Hispanic-owned enterprises into their supplier networks," says Javier Palomarez, USHCC President & CEO. "This type of dedication plays a significant role in influencing major corporations across the country to integrate Hispanic businesses into their everyday operations."
USHCC presented the 2011 Corporation of the Year award to Johnson & Johnson Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer, Dominic Caruso, and Chief Procurement Officer Hans Melotte.
"This is quite an honor for our company," says Caruso. "It validates the work that we do to ensure that minority-owned and women-owned businesses are fairly represented as valuable suppliers. By doing business with diverse suppliers, we directly contribute to the creation of jobs in our local communities and beyond. We are strengthening ties to all those who benefit from our products and services - the one billion lives we touch every day. This is something we value deeply and we are proud to be recognized by the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce."
In 2010, Johnson & Johnson was inducted into the USHCC's Million Dollar Club which was created to honor and celebrate the commitment of corporations and their procurement executives who recognize the value of HBEs. Earlier this year, the company became the first healthcare organization to join the Billion Dollar Roundtable, comprised of a select group of corporations who have earned at least $1 billion in spending with minority-owned businesses.
"At Johnson & Johnson, Hispanic and other diverse businesses are an integral part of our supplier network," says Melotte. "Knowing that our work as a Procurement group has made an impact is incredibly rewarding."
