USGreentech Celebrates 7th Envirofill Installation in New York City
CINCINNATI, May 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- USGreentech is pleased to announce the installation of Envirofill®, the infill of choice for athletic turf and synthetic lawns, at New York City's Chelsea Park. The latest project marks USGreentech's 7th field with the Department of Parks and Recreation.
Just blocks from Madison Square Garden in the heart of Manhattan, the installation is part of a state-of-the-art 50,000 square foot, $2.2 million project to replace the city's first artificial-turf playing surface after 12 years of use. Artificial turf technology has improved dramatically since the installation of the original field, and Envirofill is the latest high performance advancement in turf infill.
"This is one of the heaviest-used fields in the city – there's few like it on the West Side [of Manhattan]," Deputy Parks Commissioner, Liam Kavanagh, told the New York Post.
New York City has a stringent set of criteria to approve turf infills. They must be durable enough to withstand the high use, must not contain heavy metals, and must help reduce the heat island effect caused by traditional turf infills. The turf infill must also be suitable for a multitude of sports including soccer, baseball, and football. Envirofill is a great solution for the Department of Parks and Recreation because it meets all these demanding criteria.
According to Adam Coleman, Operations Manager for USGreentech, "Envirofill has been proven to lower temperatures on outdoor playing surfaces – so kids and parents can rest easy that the new field is not only safe, but cooler than traditional artificial-turf fields."
About Envirofill
Born from the idea that turf infill should closely simulate the feel of a natural grass field, Envirofill gets its strength and high-performance from its unique, rounded quartz core. Found only in Texas, this naturally occurring sand is tough, but not abrasive. Due to their rounded shape and uniformity, Envirofill grains resist compaction to keep your field playable, game after game. And, Microban® antimicrobial technology is infused into the infill during the manufacturing process to inhibit the growth of bacteria, mold, and mildew that can cause stains, odors, and product deterioration. Since 2005, Envirofill has been deployed in over 50 sports fields around the world and is the basis for hundreds of landscape installations.
