USG Builds Dreams for U.S. Paralympic Alpine Skier Alana Nichols, Sends Her 3 Biggest Fans to Sochi

CHICAGO, March 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Team USA Paralympic Alpine Skier Alana Nichols just had a huge dream come true, and the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games haven't even begun yet.

Nichols learned that her two sisters and agent will be making the trip to Sochi to see her compete, thanks to USG Corporation (NYSE:USG), a sponsor of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams. USG donated funds to cover travel expenses for Nichols' sisters and agent so they can be there with her as she competes on the world's biggest stage.

At 17, after a missed back flip while snowboarding, Nichols was left paralyzed from the waist down. Since then, she has become a huge presence in the Paralympic Games, excelling in wheelchair basketball and adaptive skiing. In 2008, she helped the U.S. Women's Wheelchair Basketball Team win the gold at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, and just two years later, she won two gold medals at the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games competing in adaptive skiing. This made her not only a two-sport Paralympian, but also the first American woman to win a gold medal in both a Paralympic Summer and Winter Games.

USG also donated building materials to help construct USA House in Sochi, Russia and new buildings at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., which will open this year.
