SALT LAKE CITY, April 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- USANA employees joined forces with local nonprofit TreeUtah to celebrate Arbor Day on an ambitious project to plant trees in a local community park. The project was coordinated through USANA Green, a USANA initiative which is dedicated to implementing programs to reduce solid waste, conserve water and energy and recycle. Several USANA employees volunteered their time and tree-planting assistance to improve the quality and longevity of Jordan Park in Salt Lake City.
"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with TreeUtah to conserve and beautify our local community," said Gustavo da Silva, USANA corporate sustainability coordinator. "USANA Green is committed to establishing programs and partnerships which provide our employees the opportunity to serve, while working to preserve our environment."
Arbor Day began in 1872 in an effort to bring awareness to the value of trees in our communities and their importance to preserving healthy soil and increasing natural resources. The planting of trees means improved water quality, less runoff and erosion and more recharging of the ground water supply. In addition, trees add value to the community, help to cool neighborhoods, break cold winds and provide food for wildlife. Each average-sized tree provides an estimated $7 savings in annual environmental benefits, including energy conservation and reduced pollution. In fact, a single tree can absorb as much carbon in a year as a car produces while driving 26,000 miles.
