The United States and Honduras have a long-standing relationship of cooperation and mutual understanding. USAID programs in Honduras are targeted toward improving citizen security and promoting economic growth. Under the U.S. Government's Central America Regional Security Initiative (CARSI), USAID works with the government and local communities to provide greater educational and vocational opportunities for at-risk youth by strengthening juvenile justice systems and implementing community-based crime prevention activities.
Through the U.S. Government's global food security initiative, Feed the Future, USAID helps small farmers access more lucrative markets, which generates more income and reduces poverty in rural communities.
