USAID Administrator Shah to Discuss Global Hunger, Innovation, and University Partnerships in San Francisco, California

WASHINGTON, Nov. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Monday, November 14, USAID Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah heads to San Francisco, California for a two-day visit.

Dr. Shah will deliver a keynote address at the annual meeting of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU). The APLU Annual Meeting has become the premier event for public university leaders to share opinions on emerging topics, gain valuable professional development, and meet colleagues from across the nation. Dr. Shah will highlight USAID's partnership with U.S. universities, and will challenge U.S universities to "push the envelope" on science, technology, and innovation to reduce poverty, hunger, and disease in developing countries.

In addition, Dr. Shah will meet with leaders in the Bay Area tech community who are amplifying USAID's first-ever public awareness campaign to help victims of the famine in the Horn of Africa. FWD (Famine. War. Drought.) is an innovative campaign to engage citizens about the crisis and to spur relief efforts for those affected. Americans are encouraged to share facts about the famine, support the humanitarian organizations conducting relief operations, and learn more about the solutions.
