McLEAN, Va., April 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- USA TODAY High School Sports today unveiled the 2014 American Family Insurance ALL-USA Girls Basketball Team, highlighting the best high school players from across the country during the 2013-2014 season.
Brianna Turner, a Notre Dame signee and 6-3 senior forward from Manvel High School (Texas), has been selected as the national player of the year. Averaging 20.8 points, 11.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 3.9 blocks and 3.7 steals per game, Turner led her team to the 5A state title.
Chad Hibdon of Blackman High School (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) has been named national coach of the year. Chad not only coached a team with one senior to a 34-1 record, but also helped them take the No.1 spot in the USA TODAY Super 25 Girls Basketball rankings.
The full ALL-USA teams (first, second and third teams) appear in today's print edition of USA TODAY and are also available online at usatodayhss.com. The ALL-USA Team and its year-end player and coach awards have been given out annually since 1983 and are considered the highest such honors in high school basketball.
Joining Turner on the ALL-USA first team is 5-6 UCLA-bound senior guard Jordin Canada of Windward (Los Angeles). Canada averaged 16.8 points, 6.1 assists, 3.7 rebounds and had a 3-to-1 assist turnover ratio.
Asia Durr, a 5-10 guard from St. Pius X (Atlanta) is one of two juniors named to the first team. Durr led her team to a 30-3 record and its second consecutive Class AAA state title, averaging 24.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 2.5 steals per game. Joining Durr is Katie Lou Samuelson, a 6-3 forward from Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.). Samuelson guided her team to a 28-3 record while averaging 26.3 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.
A'ja Wilson, a 6-5 senior center from Heathwood Hall Episcopal (Columbia, S.C.) also joins the first team. Averaging 34.4 points, 14.5 rebounds, 5.4 blocks and 3.2 steals per game, Wilson led her team to the state independent schools Class AAA title.
