MCLEAN, Va., Aug. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- USA TODAY High School Sports—the nation's go-to resource for high school sports news and stats—today unveiled the 2013 preseason American Family Insurance ALL-USA high school football team, recognizing the best offensive and defensive high school football players in the U.S. to keep an eye on for the upcoming season.
Three defensive players—Andrew Brown, a 6-4, University of Virginia-bound senior defensive lineman from Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, Va.) with 82 tackles and four forced fumbles; Marlon Humphrey, a 6-1, undecided senior defensive back from Hoover (Ala.) with four interceptions, 15 pass breakups and two blocked punts; and Jabrill Peppers of Paramus Catholic (Paramus, N.J.), a 6-1, University of Michigan-bound defensive back with 76 tackles and 4 interceptions—are the returning players from last year's end-of-season American Family Insurance ALL-USA First Team.
Peppers, who represents Paramus Catholic, USA TODAY High School Sports' No. 4 team in its 2013 Super 25 Preseason National Ranking, is one of five University of Michigan recruits on this year's preseason team. He is joined by junior George Campbell (East Lake; Tarpon Springs, Fla.), a 6-3 wide receiver who had 30 catches for 766 yards and five touchdowns; offensive lineman Mason Cole (East Lake; Tarpon Springs, Fla.), a 6-7 senior and four-year starter; wide receiver Drake Harris (Grand Rapids Christian; Grand Rapids, Mich.), a 6-4 senior who caught 91 passes, had 21 touchdowns and set a state record of 2,016 yards; and linebacker Michael Ferns of St. Clairsville (Ohio), a 6-3 senior who had 144 tackles and four sacks last season.
Campbell is one of only two juniors named to the preseason squad. Leading St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.)—No. 13 in the Super 25 preseason rankings—is junior quarterback Josh Rosen, who completed 135 of 248 passes for 2,808 yards and 22 touchdowns during his sophomore year.
In all, players from 14 states are represented on this year's preseason team, with the highest representation coming from Florida with four players selected. Arizona, Georgia Louisiana, Texas and Virginia each placed two players.
