MCLEAN, Va., Dec. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- USA TODAY and HighSchoolSports.net today unveiled the 2011 All-USA high school football team, highlighting the best offensive and defensive high school football players in the USA during the past season.
The All-USA Offense is led by Offensive Player of the Year Dorial Green-Beckham of Hillcrest (Springfield, Mo.), a 6-6 senior wide receiver who established a national record for career receiving yards (6,447). The All-USA Defense is led by Defensive Player of the Year Mario Edwards Jr. of Ryan (Denton, Texas), a 6-4, 275-pound lineman who racked up 67 tackles this season — 32 for a loss — as well as 11 sacks and seven forced fumbles.
Bob Beatty of Trinity (Louisville, Ky.), the number two team in this season's final USA TODAY Super 25 rankings, is the Coach of the Year. Beatty guided Trinity to the school's ninth state title in 11 years and a 14-0 record, which included wins over teams from four different states.
The full All-USA Team (first and second teams) appears in today's print edition of USA TODAY and is also available online at www.highschoolsports.net. The All-USA Team and its year-end player and coach awards have been given out annually since 1982 and are considered the highest such honors in high school football, with past player of the year honorees such as running back Emmitt Smith (Escambia, Pensacola, Fla.) in 1986 and linebacker Derrick Brooks (Washington, also Pensacola) in 1990 going on to star-studded careers in the NFL.
Green-Beckham and Zach Banner, a 6-9 offensive lineman from Lakes (Lakewood, Wash.), are the lone repeat honorees from last year's All-USA Team. In all, players from 15 states are represented on this year's team, with the highest representation coming from Florida (five), California (three) and Pennsylvania (three).
Following is the complete listing of this year's All-USA First Team, as determined by USA TODAY and HighSchoolSports.net. For more information on the All-USA Team, including a full listing of the All-USA First and Second teams, visit www.highschoolsports.net.
