U.S. Senators Push DOT to Issue GM "Park it Now" Order as Thomas J. Henry Injury Attorneys Client Count Swells to 500

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas, April 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Senators Edward Markey of Massachusetts and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut are urging the Department of Transportation to issue a "Park It Now" order for 2.5 million General Motors vehicles recalled for defective ignitions.[1] The senators both serve on a Congressional committee charged with investigating GM and their handling of the ignition switch recall.

In a letter to Department of Transportation secretary Anthony Foxx, the senators urge Foxx to issue the order, writing that "every day that unrepaired vehicles remain on the road increases the risk of more injuries, deaths and damage." They are asking that all cars remain parked until repairs are complete, which may not be until October of 2014.

The senators' request comes at a time when GM is reportedly exploring the idea of setting up a victim compensation fund with the help of "pay czar" Ken Feinberg, who previously handled victim compensation for the 9/11 terrorist attacks, BP oil spill, and Boston Marathon bombings.

Thus far, GM has linked the recalled vehicles to 31 accidents and has only publicly recognized 13 death victims.[2]

"We believe that the degree and extent of serious injuries and deaths is far beyond the representations by GM," Thomas J. Henry added. "I can only hope that Ken Feinberg will recognize the pain and suffering GM has put these individuals and their families through and compensate them accordingly."
