US Premiere of Japanese UNFORGIVEN to open LA EigaFest 2013
Ken Watanabe remake of Clint Eastwood classic to be introduced to American Audience at Hollywood's premiere Japanese film festival.
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the Japan Film Society announced the line-up of the 3rd Annual LA EigaFest to be held December 6-8, 2013 at the famed Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. The festival will open with the US Premiere of UNFORGIVEN (YURUSAREZARU MONO), Lee Sang-il's remake of the 1992 Clint Eastwood classic. The Ken Watanabe vehicle recently played to great acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival. Lee Sang-il will participate in the opening ceremonies as well as a Q&A for US and Japanese Audiences.
Other Films include: Hayao Miyazaki's THE WIND RISES, THE APOLOGY KING, LIBRARY WARS, THE DEVIL'S PATH, THE STORY OF YONOSUKE, SAMURAI PIRATES, LEAVING ON THE 15th OF SPRING, NOBODY'S PERFECT, JAPAN IN A DAY (by EP Ridley Scott), and the North American Premiere of the unique filmed stage actioner SEVEN SOULS IN SCULL CASTLE. The feature film DEATH AND TANYA, by 2012's competition shorts winner will also be screened.
In addition to the features, the festival will screen the 6 winning films from the short film competition, which are vying for the Golden Zipangu Award, as well as selections from Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia. LA EigaFest's popular Japanese TV Animation series will be reprised with 2 episodes each of Saint Seiya and Tiger & Bunny with English sub-titles created exclusively for the festival.
Finally, five renowned Hollywood creators will be awarded the "U.S. Japan Content Merit Award" by the Japanese government for bringing Japanese content and talent to a mainstream American audience. The ceremony will take place at the Consulate General of Japan's residence. The five recipients are Director Guillermo Del Toro (PACIFIC RIM), Producer Tim Kring (Heroes), Producer Don Murphy (TRANSFORMERS), Producer Vicki Shigekuni Wong (HACHI: A DOG'S TALE), and Chief Content Officer John Lasseter (TOY STORY) of Pixar who created the market for Ghibli Films in the US.
