U.S. Patent Office Issues Notice of Intent to Affirm Second TransData Wireless Smart Electric Meter Patent
DALLAS, June 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- TransData, Inc., a leading designer and manufacturer of advanced solid-state power and energy metering products, announced today that it received a "Notice of Intent to Issue Ex Parte Reexamination Certificate" from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office ("Patent Office") affirming validity of TransData's U.S. Patent No. 6,462,713 ('713 patent) after concluding a reexamination.
The '713 patent is TransData's second wireless smart electric meter patent to be reaffirmed by the Patent Office. According to the notice, the Patent Office has confirmed the validity of all 27 pending claims in the '713 patent as originally patented without any amendment or modification. The '713 patent titled, "Antenna for Electric Meter and Method of Manufacture Thereof," originally was issued on Oct. 8, 2002.
This successful result comes on the heels of a previous action by the Patent Office on May 2, 2012, confirming the validity of TransData's U.S. Patent No. 6,903,699, titled "Wireless Communication Device for Electric Meter and Method of Manufacture Thereof," which was originally issued on June 7, 2005.
The ex parte reexamination procedure against the '713 patent was anonymously requested after TransData filed a patent infringement action against a group of defendants in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas (E.D. of Tex, No. 6:10-cv-557) on Oct. 21, 2010. Represented in the litigation by Kirkland & Ellis LLP, TransData asserted its wireless smart meter patent portfolio, including the '713 patent, against CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric, LLC; Oncor Electric Delivery Company LLC; Texas-New Mexico Power Company; and Denton Municipal Utilities of Denton, Texas.
