Nuclear Regulatory Commission seeks community comments For Honeywell Corp. uranium plant where workers locked out
METROPOLIS, Ill., May 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A Town hall meeting will be held by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Monday, May 23rd, 7:00 pm (CDST) at the Massac County Courthouse, One Superman Square, Metropolis, IL for community comment on the agency's license oversight review of the Honeywell Metropolis plant performance with safety operations, safeguards, radiological controls, facility support and other special topics from January through December of 2010.

United Steelworkers Local 7-669 President, Darrell Lillie, who represents the locked out union employees, stated: "This is an opportunity for the community to hold the NRC accountable for allowing Honeywell to operate during a labor dispute caused by the company that puts everyone at risk."
The Honeywell Metropolis uranium conversion plant, the only one of its kind in the nation, has had several incidents of operating violations since locking out the 228 member hourly workforce on June 28, 2010. Other federal investigations are also being conducted by Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and the Environmental Protections Administration (EPA).
