This conference will bring together senior officials from the U.S. government, leading representatives from the private sector and independent policy experts to discuss the status of cybersecurity policy today. They will also examine the key challenges facing cybersecurity, including increasing public awareness, international efforts to deter cyber threats, and the efforts of Congress to pass cybersecurity legislation.
"The cybersecurity threat spectrum – from nation-states to hacktivists – puts both U.S. national security and economic prosperity at risk, and demands our urgent attention," said Frank Cilluffo, director of the Homeland Security Policy Institute at The George Washington University, who leads the university's Cybersecurity Initiative. "The George Washington University is prioritizing cybersecurity research, education and policy as part of its effort to contribute to addressing these challenges, and is pleased to co-host this conference as part of this broader effort."
"Cybersecurity is one of the most important issues facing our country today," said Brian Kelly, editor and chief content officer of U.S. News & World Report. "At U.S. News, we have a history of not only bringing these major issues to light, but helping to get the conversations started so that the appropriate action can be taken."
Michael Daniel, the cybersecurity coordinator at The White House, and Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, will be the keynote speakers. Among the panelists are Lt. Gen. Ronald L. Burgess (U.S. Army, ret.), former Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency; Thomas Harrington, former FBI Associate Deputy Director, now Managing Director and Chief Information Security Officer at Citigroup; and Shawn Henry, former Executive Assistant Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, now President of CrowdStrike Services.
Thomson Reuters will also be participating in the conference as a media co-sponsor.
U.S. News is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with these two organizations to bring together key decision makers and help the discussion of cybersecurity come into the spotlight. For more information on the subject of cybersecurity, please go to http://www.usnews.com/news/cybersecurity.
