WASHINGTON, June 21, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- U.S. News & World Report, publisher of Best Hospitals, today released the 2016-17 Best Children's Hospitals rankings to help families find the best medical care available for their children.
The tenth annual Best Children's Hospitals rankings are the only comprehensive source of quality-related information on U.S. pediatric centers. The new edition highlights the top 50 centers in 10 pediatric specialties, from cancer and cardiology & heart surgery to pulmonology and urology. For the 2016-17 rankings, 106 hospitals were evaluated and 78 were ranked in at least one specialty.
Eleven hospitals earned a place on the Honor Roll – a distinction awarded to pediatric centers that perform at the highest levels in three or more specialties. Boston Children's Hospital is No. 1 on the Honor Roll, claiming the top spot in eight out of 10 specialties. "Families with sick children face so many uphill battles," said Avery Comarow, U.S. News health rankings editor. "By recognizing hospitals that offer the best pediatric care, we hope we can offer families important help when they are going through an exceptionally overwhelming time."
The rankings are based on clinical data obtained from 183 pediatric centers and on the opinions of nearly 11,000 surveyed pediatric specialists and subspecialists. RTI International, a North Carolina-based research and consulting firm, directed the data collection with the help of more than 100 medical directors, pediatric specialists and other experts, and analyzed the results.
The Best Children's Hospitals methodology considers clinical outcomes, efficiency and coordination of care delivery, infection control, compliance with "best practices" and resources such as number of nurses and availability of programs for particular illnesses and conditions. The FAQ provides more information on the 2016-17 results.
The rankings will be published in the U.S. News "Best Hospitals 2017" guidebook, available in August from the U.S. News Store. For more information, visit Best Children's Hospitals and use #BestHospitals on Facebook and Twitter.
