SAN FRANCISCO and WASHINGTON, June 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in hospital rankings and health journalism, announced a five-year extension of its agreement with Doximity, the leading social network for physicians and advanced practice clinicians.
With Doximity, U.S. News offers a free online directory of more than 800,000 practicing U.S. physicians, providing consumers with data and tools that help them choose the right medical providers and a new appointment booking platform to more swiftly connect them. Doximity will continue as the exclusive provider of the online physician survey for board-certified U.S. physicians that is used alongside structural, process, and outcomes metrics in the U.S. News Best Hospitals and Best Children's Hospitals methodologies.
"Consumers face complex decisions in managing their healthcare," said Ben Harder, U.S. News' chief of health analysis. "Each of our services, including our long-standing Best Hospitals rankings, aims to help guide patients through the tough choices they face. Doximity has one of the richest data sets in the industry, which doctors themselves keep current, enabling us to better assist patients when it comes to finding and selecting their doctors."
Doctors in the U.S. News online directory can access Doximity's free network, which is larger than the combined membership of some of the largest medical associations in the country. With Doximity's HIPAA-secure platform, clinicians can use their smartphone or computer to collaborate with other healthcare professionals to discuss patient treatment and connect with specialists for patient referrals.
"With more than 800,000 licensed medical professionals as members, Doximity has become the go-to source for physicians researching other physicians, whether it's to manage their career or consult with a specialist on patient care," said Nate Gross, M.D., co-founder of Doximity. "We're excited to continue working with U.S. News and help patients – and their doctors – find the right physician."
More than 70 percent of all U.S. physicians have joined Doximity to connect, collaborate, and collectively provide better care for their patients.
For doctors, this continued collaboration offers an opportunity to accurately represent themselves to the online public. Physicians can control whether certain information is shared publicly by simply maintaining an up-to-date Doximity profile. Visitors to usnews.com – which number more than 30 million per month – have the opportunity to view the hospitals affiliated with a given physician and which insurance plans are accepted. Doximity and U.S. News expect to create processes and tools for health systems and physician networks to more easily and regularly keep their information up to date.
U.S. News ranks hospitals in 16 adult specialties and 10 pediatric specialties and rates more than 8,000 health insurance plans. For more information, see http://health.usnews.com.
