RESTON, Va., Oct. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Leidos (NYSE: LDOS), a health, national security, and engineering solutions company, was awarded a prime contract by the U.S. Navy to provide operational medicine research modeling support services to the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC). The single-award cost-plus fixed-fee contract has a one-year base period of performance, four one-year options, and a total contract value of approximately $26 million, if all options are exercised. Work will be performed in San Diego, Calif.
NHRC performs medical modeling and simulation research for the Department of Defense, homeland defense, humanitarian assistance, peace-keeping and disaster relief activities, including casualty projection, medical planning factor development, identification of weapons effects both ground and shipboard-based, projection of resource requirements, database development and maintenance, and quality of life outcome studies.
Under the follow-on contract, Leidos will continue to provide support services for research modeling in support of operational medicine. The research is heavily data driven and depends upon the collection, characterization, analysis, and reporting of data from multiple sources, including both in-house sources such as the Expeditionary Medical Encounter database (EMED) and external sources such as the Military Health System (MHS), the Department of Veterans Affairs, and other operational data.
"Supporting the Naval Health Research Center with its analysis of medical and scientific data will help ensure the mission readiness of our military personnel, and we are proud to continue this important work," said Jerry Hogge, Deputy Group President, Leidos Health.
