U.S. Department of the Navy Awards $787 Million IT Services Contract to Perspecta
CHANTILLY, Va., Sept. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Perspecta Inc. (NYSE: PRSP), a leading U.S. government services provider, today received a $787 million contract extension from the U.S. Department of the Navy for the continuation of IT services. Perspecta currently provides to the Navy under the Next Generation Enterprise Network (NGEN) contract. The award allows Perspecta to continue providing services for an additional year, through September 2019.
Under NGEN, Perspecta operates the Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI), the world's largest intranet, with approximately 300,000 seats representing 700,000 Navy and Marine Corps uniformed and civilian users, largely within the continental United States. As originally awarded, the NGEN contract would have expired on September 30, 2018.
As the Navy plans for the transition to the next competition for delivering NMCI enterprise services – known as NGEN-R – this award is part of a planned extension; a modification to add an option for an additional eight-month extension is also expected to be awarded. The NGEN extension will provide uninterrupted IT operations and network security services until award and start of the NGEN-R contracts.
"As a new company, Perspecta is bringing a fresh and innovative approach to NGEN. Sailors and Marines will see real benefits from our experienced team, coupled with new thinking and enhanced capabilities that only we know how to make work on NMCI," said Mac Curtis, Perspecta President and CEO. "Perspecta is the best combination for what the Department of the Navy needs now: a pure-play government services provider with a mission mindset and the industry's most experienced team at transitioning highly-complex, large-scale IT environments while maintaining secure and reliable network operations."
With a singular focus on the government market, Perspecta is a "best of all worlds" combination of the former DXC Technology U.S. Public Sector business (Enterprise Services, LLC) with Vencore and KeyPoint, two companies with deep mission support experience.
"Perspecta is a steady hand, combining the strong enterprise IT services business from USPS with the innovative mission services businesses of Vencore and KeyPoint," said Curtis. "Our NGEN delivery team is proud to continue serving the Navy and Marine Corps and we look forward to applying our extensive intellectual property portfolio and unparalleled knowledge in areas that align with the needs of the end user at all levels."
Today's contract award continues the evolution of a program that began in 2000, when Navy started a forward-leaning transformation to secure net-centric operations. Today, that program is the world's largest intranet, the most secure IT platform in the U.S. Department of Defense, and the U.S. government's largest IT managed services contract.
