U.S. Department of Justice FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin Applauds Nixle

QUANTICO, Va., July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Department of Justice's July 2010 edition of the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin endorsed Nixle as the newest, most secure, and most reliable tool for law enforcement to communicate with the public.

In a story about digital communications, the FBI's monthly Law Enforcement Bulletin stated, "The ability to limit information distribution to only those who need it offers Nixle a big advantage over other networking sites. Reducing the number of messages ensures that readers pay attention when they receive one from law enforcement because it likely will be immediately relevant to them there and then." Discussing the various new digital communication platforms, including Twitter, the bulletin endorsed Nixle for partnering with the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS). Nlets links state, local, federal, and international law enforcement, justice and public safety agencies for the exchange of critical data. Given the partnership between Nixle and Nlets, Nixle can house it's servers in Nlets secure facilities, resulting in an enhanced level of security and reliability for municipal agencies.  

The FBI Bulletin also complimented Nixle on its unique ability to send secure instant messages to all users in any specific geographic area. No other networking sites offer this capability.  "Nixle has demonstrated its usefulness to law enforcement.  For instance, an elderly resident in California failed to return home.  Local police quickly sent out a description to its subscribers through Nixle within a half mile from her home. Later they expanded the message to a larger search area.  The woman was found safe and returned to her family."

The Nixle public alerting solution has been adopted by over 4,200 agencies in all 50 states since it became available 15 months ago. The number of local, state, and federal agencies adopting the service is steadily growing. Big cities, such as Los Angeles, Baltimore, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Dallas, have been successfully 'Nixling' hyperlocal information to their residents.

Additionally, an enhanced service, known as NixleConnect, will become available to government and enterprise level organizations in Q4 2010 on a fee basis.  NixleConnect is an advanced interoperability solution that has been proven successful at the high-profile 2009 G-20 Summit, where Nixle's services enabled the Pittsburgh police department to communicate internally with 30 agencies for the event, quelling protester hot spots and keeping the damage to the city at a minimum. This private messaging solution was also used at the 2010 Academy Awards and the May Day immigration protests.
