WASHINGTON, May 20, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- U.S. Conference of Mayors President Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson issued the following statement today following the Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2014 passing the House of Representatives:

"On behalf of the nation's mayors, I congratulate Senator Barbara Boxer, Ranking Member David Vitter, House Chairman Bill Shuster, and Ranking Member Nick Rahall for creating critically needed legislation that will strengthen the nation's waterways infrastructure, improve critical flood control and infrastructure resiliency to protect communities from extreme weather, and enhance our global competitiveness. In the midst of intense partisan gridlock, the House has taken an important first step in approving the Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2014 (WRRDA) on an overwhelmingly bipartisan basis, with a 412-4 vote. We urge the Senate to pass this important legislation later this week, so that it can be signed into law expeditiously."
