WASHINGTON, March 12, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- U.S. Conference of Mayors President Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson today issued the following statement in response to the shooting of police officers last night in Ferguson, Missouri:
"The nation's mayors are appalled that two police officers were senselessly shot last night in Ferguson (MO) as a protest following the police chief's resignation was winding down. We pray for their full recovery.
"This tragic act appears to have been completely unprovoked and further exacerbates the situation in a community desperately trying to heal from all it has experienced.
"As Mayors we want to send a strong message that violence against police officers can never be tolerated."
The U.S. Conference of Mayors is the official nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more.
