U.S. Chamber of Commerce Supports Establishment of Libyan AmCham (USLCC)
WASHINGTON, Dec. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the formal establishment of the U.S.-Libya Chamber of Commerce under the direction of its first president, Adam Hock. The U.S. Chamber has granted its full support to the establishment of the USLCC as it believes that the Chamber should begin its important work in a timely manner and provide the requisite support to U.S. businesses looking to invest in Libya.
"The Chamber views the establishment of the USLCC as a major show of support from the U.S. private sector for the political and economic aspirations of the people of Libya, while at the same time delivering real economic benefits to U.S. and Libyan companies and the region as a whole," said U.S. Chamber of Commerce Vice President for Middle East and North Africa Affairs, Lionel C. Johnson. "The U.S. Chamber is uniquely positioned to provide the experience of its members to the Libyan government and business community during this inspiring period of political transition."
"We are very pleased with the support the U.S. Chamber has given us in establishing the USLCC," said USLCC President Adam Hock. "Our role will be to give support to American businesses wishing to enter the Libyan market, as well as to provide important links between Libyan and American companies. It is an honor to work with the Chamber in Libya and we look forward to serving as a liaison between industry and Government."
Prior to assuming his position as President of the USLCC, Hock was heavily involved in providing support for the Libyan Transitional National Council (TNC) during its international appeal for recognition. As co-founder with Basit Igtet of the Independent Libyan Foundation (www.inlifo.eu), Hock served as an advocate for the Libyan people and their transitional government.
The U.S.-Libya Chamber of Commerce will have its initial base of operations in New York City and will soon be transitioning to offices in Tripoli, Libya.
