U.S. Chamber Foundation Report Outlines Role of Childcare in Education Pipeline, Workforce Development
WASHINGTON, June 29, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation released a new report exploring high-quality childcare as an approach to building a strong and better-trained American workforce today and for the future.
As it outlines the role of childcare in the education pipeline, the report acknowledges that the K-12 system is falling short in preparing students for the ever-changing demands of the 21st century workforce. Quality childcare, the report says, can serve as a critical step in America's efforts to strengthen the current workforce, as well as to pave the way for a next generation that is well-trained, well-educated, and equipped to succeed. The report also showcases a handful of examples of business leadership on childcare throughout the country.
"A child's education begins well before they enter school, and high-quality childcare is an under-recognized part of the early education system. It has a role in laying the foundation for a child's success in school, and ultimately, the workforce," said Cheryl Oldham, senior vice president for the U.S. Chamber Foundation's Center for Education and Workforce. "As the business community considers a wealth of strategies in the ongoing conversation about strengthening our workforce, we should not underestimate high-quality childcare and the potential it holds to support the workforce of today and of tomorrow."
The report was released during the U.S. Chamber's event, "Workforce of Today, Workforce of Tomorrow," which examined the role of childcare in the education pipeline and its impact on the American workforce. A full copy of the report is available online here.
