SUNDAY, APRIL 29: BIG FISH FRY

Profile America — Sunday, April 29th.  It's April in Paris — Tennessee, that is — and time for the town's annual claim to fame as the host of the world's biggest fish fry.  Before the event is over on Sunday, some 100,000 people will have visited, consuming about five tons of catfish, along with several tons of hush puppies.  They'll also see a carnival, a rodeo, parades, and even catfish races.  While the people in Paris, Tennessee have enjoyed their festival since 1953, fish lovers all over the country have come to appreciate what once was a regional delicacy of the South.  We now produce about 780 million pounds of farm-raised catfish each year, worth more than $375 million.  Profile America is completing its 15th year as a public service of the U.S. Census Bureau.
