U.S. Census Bureau and Lockheed Martin Open New Call Center in Sandy, Utah
Vangent-operated facility will offer approximately 1,600 local jobs in 2010; Total of 11 Call Centers will employ nearly 8,000 nationwide
SANDY, Utah, Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Census Bureau and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) today unveiled a new 1,300-seat call center in Sandy, Utah, to support the data capture efforts required for the 2010 Census.
In today's ribbon cutting ceremony, officials of the U.S. Census Bureau and Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Services were joined by Vangent and IBM executives to officially open the building. The ceremony also included federal, state and city officials.

The facility is one of 11 call centers operated by Lockheed Martin subcontractors Vangent, Inc. and IBM, and is an integral element in Lockheed Martin's efforts to deliver the people, process, technology and infrastructure for the 2010 Census.
The Call Center, located at 8475 South Sandy Parkway in Sandy, will employ approximately 1,600 temporary professionals to handle both inbound and outbound calling activities to support the 2010 Census data capture efforts. This facility is the largest of 11 Call Centers across the country. It will serve as an information resource for millions of U.S. residents who have questions about the 2010 Census. The Call Centers will also conduct outbound calls to follow up with millions of households to ensure that no one was missed or counted more than once. The Call Centers will provide services in English, Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, Mandarin Chinese, Russian and TTY/TDY.

The Sandy Call Center needs Customer Service Agents who can type 20-words-per-minute; minimum accuracy standards apply. Call center experience is preferred. Positions are also available for bilingual agents with fluency in Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Mandarin Chinese, and Korean. All applicants must pass a suitability background check, have a high school diploma or equivalent and be legally able to work in the U.S. Recruiting for the Sandy Call Center facility has already begun and should be at full capacity by April 2010, according to company officials.
